Westport CA

Westport California Information

Westport, the northernmost town of Mendocino County's North Coast region, is a tiny town boasting a population of approximately 200 citizens. It's a lovely, quiet area with awesome scenery and has proven to be a favorite place to settle for those wanting to escape the hubbub of the big cities.

But peace and quiet wasn't always a way of life here. When the lumber industry was at its peak, Westport was a town of about 20,000 residents, mostly loggers and fishermen. You'll still, nevertheless, find a strong sense of community here, with the entire town coming out to support annual barbecues and other events that benefit local charities.

If you're looking for lodging in Westport, you'll find a number of state and private campgrounds, some vacation rentals, and a few inns. Campsites, horseback and hiking trails, and fishing opportunities are available at 7,367-acre Sinkyone State Park and the scenery here is tremendous. Camping is also available at Westport-Union Landing State Beach, a perfect place from which to watch the sunset.

Westport is home to one of the area's quirkiest annual events - the Great Rubber Ducky Race, held each Mother's Day. Bring your favorite ducky for a day full of good food and clean fun!
