About Branscomb
The very quiet little town of Branscomb lies in the northern part of the Mendocino County, not far from the coast, between Westport along Highway 1, and Laytonville, along Highway 101. Branscomb is situated near the south fork of the Eel River and close to the Admiral William H. Standley State Recreation Area. It's a good place to stop if you're traveling from Laytonville to the coast along Branscomb Road.

The state reserve was acquired in 1944, and though it's small (approximately 45 acres), it provides a pleasant stop for exploring local flora and fauna including the giant redwoods that are protected here. Anglers will want to stay for some top-notch salmon and steelhead fishing in the waters of the Eel River. Hiking is popular as well.
