About Point Arena
Point Arena is a small fishing community located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Though it is one of the smallest incorporated cities in California, with only 474 people in the city limits, it still includes a mayor, city council and fire department. The diamond of the city would have to be the small pier located at the Point Arena Cove, where local fisherman have been practicing their hobby for generation after generation for more than 150 years. In more recent years, it has become a most popular surf spot for local surfers and visitors alike. A must-see in Point Arena California is the Point Arena lighthouse, located just south of the city. The lighthouse is home to one of the country's most beautiful peninsulas, jutting out over two miles into the Pacific Ocean. Visitors are welcome to tour the museum and take a hike up to the top of the lighthouse, measuring 115 feet high. Despite its size, the city has a few small inns, restaurants, a high school and grammar school, medical center and a theater which shows two films nightly. Point Arena is the closest point of land in the Continental United States to Hawaii. Highway 1 runs directly through the city and stopping to take a quick walk through the town is a snap. Like most towns along the coast, its major income is tourism. Visitors to the area will probably notice the strong sense of community in this city, which started back in the 70's when it developed into a counterculture of "hippie folk".
