Types of Accommodations
Big hotels with pools and extravagant amenities aren't the name-of-the-game in pristine Mendocino County. The lodging here is much more special than your run-of-the-mill hotel.

Small Inns and B 'n' B's
Small inns are another favorite place for visitors to stay. These lodging choices, like the B&Bs, are often family-owned and operated and boast not only excellent rooms but also great restaurants and stunning views. Some are even situated on the grounds of Mendocino County's up-and-coming wineries.

Camping in the County
If you prefer something more rustic or you and your family enjoy communing with nature, many of the state parks located within the borders of the county offer camping opportunities. Tent camping is especially popular along the rivers of Mendocino County or near the magnificent coast.

Vacation Rentals
Others enjoy the convenience of a home-away-from-home and choose a Mendocino vacation rental house. Renting a home for a week or two allows for maximum privacy and such homes often include fantastic amenities, such as pools or hot tubs. The extra space is perfect for groups or large families.

Lodging in Mendocino
In the artsy village of Mendocino on the North Coast, you'll find a variety of bed and breakfast accommodations. Most are classic Victorian in style and are simply breathtaking. Interiors are often decorated with antiques and lodgings such as these provide the perfect romantic get-away for honeymooners. In addition, weddings often take place on these wonderful properties, many of which also boast fine dining establishments on-site, just right for a post-ceremony reception. Some B&Bs are kid-friendly while others post age limits.

Gualala lodging options include a number of small inns or privately-owned hotels/motels and a handful of rustic cabins. Mendocino Coast hotels and other lodging options in the South Coast town of Gualala are suited for a variety of tastes and will please both the nature lover and the arts aficionado. You might also find some spectacular vacation home rentals here.

Fort Bragg Hotels
If you're stopping for a stay in one of Mendocino County's larger towns, you're likely to find more traditional types of lodging. For example, in Fort Bragg on the North Coast, it's not hard to find a few chain hotels with names you've come to recognize and trust. However, if you prefer something more intimate or picturesque, there are plenty of Fort Bragg lodging opportunities similar to those in the smaller towns, like B&Bs and inns.

Along Highway 101
If you're traveling inland along Route 101 and wish to stay in Ukiah, you'll indeed find mostly chain hotels. Ukiah lodging offers easy access to the highway and a variety of restaurants are located near the accommodations. Similarly, along the highway in the Northern Inland region, Willits lodging consists of mostly small chain hotels and motels within reasonable proximity of the highway.

Small town in the County
Some of the other small towns in between also offer bed and breakfast lodging, quaint small inns, campgrounds, cabins, and vacation rentals. If you're staying in the most popular locales, like Mendocino village, you'll want to plan ahead in order to secure a room in a choice location, especially during the busy summer season.

Cost of Mendocino Lodging
The price of lodging in Mendocino County varies greatly. Elegant bed and breakfast accommodations in Mendocino, for example, may cost as much as $350-$400 per night, depending on the view and the season. Most average around $200 per night in season, less during the winter.

Prices at small inns may be a bit less than at B&B establishments, depending on the amenities included in your stay. Hotels and motels along Highway 101 are quite affordable but, of course, the view isn't what it is on the bluffs along the coast!

Campgrounds in state parks or recreation areas might be as affordable as $10 per night for tent camping. RV parks also offer reasonable rates.

Vacation rental homes range from spectacular oceanfront villas that cost up to $4,000 per week to much more modest cabin-type properties that charge about $100 per night.
