Forming a tight-knit community is important to the residents of Mendocino County. Mendocino communities gather together for special events, offer guidance to visitors, and make your stay in the county more enjoyable.

Whether you're just stopping by for a while or if you plan to make Mendocino County your new home, you'll find lots of organizations eager to help you assimilate to the community, from churches and clubs to community centers that serve the needs of the people.

County Chambers of Commerce
Currently, there are 9 Chambers of Commerce located throughout the county - one each for Redwood Coast, Anderson Valley, Fort Bragg, Greater Ukiah, Willits, Hopland, Laytonville, Leggett, and Round Valley. Each Mendocino Chamber of Commerce provides useful services to both visitors and residents.

Each Chamber promotes businesses in its community, distributes pertinent information, welcomes and guides visitors, promotes tourism, and fosters the cultural and education interests of the area. A trip to the Chamber of Commerce website for each area will not only provide you with information about Chamber membership but will usually supply a list of important upcoming community events so that you can join in the fun while you're visiting beautiful Mendocino County.

Religious Organizations
If you're searching for a place to worship while visiting the county or you're looking for a home church or other religious home because you're new to the area, you'll find that just about every major denomination of Christianity and a host of other religions are represented here.

For example, just in Fort Bragg alone, you'll find a variety of churches including Assemblies of God, Baptist, Roman Catholic, Christian Science, Church of Christ, Mormon, Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist, Methodist, Unitarian, Foursquare, Jehovah's Witness, and several non-denominational churches. There's also a Buddhist congregation in the city and nearby Caspar boasts a large Jewish community.

Non-Profit Organizations
There are currently in excess of 300 non-profit organizations scattered throughout Mendocino County. They help Mendocino communities and community members with various needs.

Ranging from senior citizens groups to Habitat for Humanity to service organizations - such as the Lions' Club and Moose Lodge - to libraries and scout groups, this impressive group of non-profits is essential to community life in Mendocino County.

Many of these non-profit organizations rely on the volunteer services of the kind and hard-working residents of Mendocino. You'll find them building homes for the poor, staffing the reference sections of the county libraries, delivering meals to the elderly, or helping teenagers who are in crisis mode.

Local governments can provide you with a comprehensive list of non-profit organizations as may the regional Chamber of Commerce.

Community Centers
Visiting one of Mendocino's many community centers allows you to meet new people from the region and enjoy local traditions as well. For example, many community centers sponsor holiday events such as Halloween festivals for the kids or New Year's Eve parties for adults. On a spring weekend, you might locate a community-wide rummage sale at one of the county's community centers or perhaps join in a local auction.

You'll find community centers in the towns of Elk, Caspar, Willits, Ukiah, and Point Arena.
