About The Winesong!

WHAT: The Annual Winesong! charity auction and wine tasting celebrates its 22nd year of raising monies for the Mendocino Coast District Hospital. The live auction attracts wine lovers and collectors from across the U.S. with an array of rare vintages, cult wines, one-of-a-kind vacations and fine art from acclaimed area artists. The wine and food tasting along the scenic coastal headlands introduces guests to more than 90 of Northern California’s most prestigious wineries, accompanied by exquisite culinary preparations. The event is produced by the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation, attracting more than 1,200 wine lovers and collectors annually.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday,11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, located north of the coastal village of Mendocino.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Wine and Food Tasting: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wine tasters stroll the lush botanical garden paths along the bluffs overlooking Mendocino’s coastal headlands as they taste wines from Mendocino, Napa, Sonoma, the Central Coast, Sierra Foothills and Washington State. Gourmet fare is provided by more than 50 fine restaurants and food purveyors from Northern California. Accenting the ambience are musical performances by ensembles playing jazz, big band tunes, classical scores, and traditional French and Irish music.

Charity Auction: Silent Auction 11 a.m.; Live Auction 2 p.m. Lively bidding gets under way in the auction tent where more than 100 lots tout their pedigree and professional auctioneers entice wine lovers to join in the bidding excitement. Narsai David of KCBS radio in San Francisco will again serve as Master of Ceremonies.

For Wine Lovers: Up for bid are hard-to-find bottles from prestigious wine producers, special wine collections and large format bottles. Winesong! has been honored to have received donations from esteemed names such as Grace Family Vineyards, Colgin Cellars, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Joseph Phelps, Hartwell Vineyards, Caymus, Far Niente, Shafer Vineyards, Silver Oak Wine Cellars, Spottswoode, Harbison, Esterlina, Vineyard 29 and many more.

For Travelers: Available to the highest bidder are one-of-a-kind vacation packages to Tuscany, South Africa, Bordeaux, Provence, the Caribbean and other enchanting parts of the world. Also featured are one and two night getaway trips to the West’s most romantic inns, resorts and spas.

For Art Collectors: The 2006 Winesong! painting by Mendocino Coast artist, Angela Speck, is one of the much anticipated live auction highlights. Also on the block are one-of-a-kind, hand-painted wine bottles and wine presentation boxes by well-known North Coast artists. These original art offerings are great collectors’ items and a special feature of Winesong!

HISTORY: Since its inception in 1985, Winesong! has raised $3 million for equipment, facilities and services at the Mendocino Coast District Hospital. The Medical Evacuation Helipad, Out Patient Surgical Services and Emergency Department Equipment are just a few of the vital areas that have been enhanced by Winesong! contributions.
