Review:
Wow. After having pretty much nothing but lousy food in the town Willits we tried Ardella's. Located 1/2 block off of 101, this tiny diner serves up some of the best food and lively conversation anywhere.
We stopped in around 11 and were told they were still serving breakfast. Disappointed, we ordered off the breakfast menus. My disappointment was very short lived however when the menu consisted of items like smoked pork and eggs (what I had)with homemade crispy tortillas strips, with smoked pork and chile gravy. Housemade salsa, pepperjack cheese and a scrambled egg. Absolutelty the best breakfast I have ever had. My wife had the triple smoked omelet with three eggs, gouda, smoked applewood bacon and smoked chicken. WOW. the potatoes were only about an 9 on my scale(needed some onions IMO), but a very small downgrade. other menu items are bourbon pecan pancakes, stuffed waffles, spinach and herbed cheese omelet with garlic tomatoes and portabellas, spinach and fresh herbed cheese.
The toast was on great bread and featured homemade blackberry jam.
the owner is very chatty and funny as all get out. Recently relocated from Minnesota, she makes you feel as if you have known her forever. The cook was very chatty, it was as if I was among family. When I saw these HUGE cinnamon rolls in the window, the owner offered one on the house. An enormous house made roll covered on pecan glaze with a huge amount of pecans drizzled over the roll. Incredible.
The diner only seats about 15 tops with a nice counter where you can watch the action in the kitchen. Amazing food is created there.
The lunch menu has Gyros, pulled pork, Muffaletta's, brick grilled sandwiches. The BLT is thick sliced applewood bacon, fresh herbed aoili on specialty bread. The brick melt has mozarella, sun dried tomato, spinach, and fresh basil pesto on an inside out french roll, grilled under a brick. I did not try these but I will have to come in for lunch next time. i can't wait. Ardellas is cheap as hell too, with nothing over 8 bucks.
Ardella's is only open Wed thru Sunday for breakfast and lunch. So arrange your next trip to the redwoods with a stop at Ardella's! For directions 707-459-6577. they are not open today so I can't give adress to call, you will be very glad you did.
Ardella's wasn't open on the Monday we were traveling to Eureka, but it was on the Friday that we were heading home.
We were impressed with the menu, but even more impressed with the food. This is a great place to take a break and enjoy a delicious meal. My only complaint is that it is very loud, to the point of having difficulty hearing my wife. Other than the noise level, this is a great place to eat!
