Information about Anderson Valley Chamber of Commerce...

While it's just over a two hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, Anderson Valley feels like another world. At the eastward end of the valley, sheep pastures and vineyards alternate with forests of oak and pine that stretch over the distant hills. Further west, redwoods tower over the road as it follows the Navarro River to the sea.

Some people come to Anderson Valley for the landscape alone. Others come to taste the award-winning wines, or to enjoy the outdoors at a state park or at one of the swimming spots along the Navarro River. People come together at the annual festivals, the local museum, the farmer's market, periodic music performances, and the high school sport games. Whatever brings you here, whether you are a long-time resident or a first-time visitor, you will find useful information on this site.

Geography
Anderson Valley is in Mendocino County. The Valley floor is 16 miles long and varies from less than 1/2 mile to about 1 1/2 miles wide. It is surrounded on three sides by rolling hills and low mountains (2000 to 3000 feet in elevation), and opens to the Pacific Ocean via the Navarro River canyon.

Climate
The Mediterranean climate features cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Frequent morning fog—especially toward the coast—and a regular afternoon sea breeze keeps the air comfortable. Nights are cool most of the year. Rainfall averages 40 inches a year, with most of it falling during the late fall to early spring months.

Waterways
The Navarro River and its major tributaries—Rancheria Creek, Anderson Creek and Indian Creek—are fed by a network of streams and creeks that come down from the hills and serve as spawning grounds for salmon and steelhead trout.
