Bolstad Woodworks Bill Bolstad received a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts from Montana State University and a M.S. degree from Iowa State University. He taught industrial arts in St. Paul, Minnesota for nine years. Since 1977, he has been a full-time craftsman, marketing his boxes and furniture throughout the United States.
Knock On Wood is a collaborative effort of husband and wife, Jim & Trina Bruno.
Jim has been a woodworker for over 20 years. Although his college years were spent as a history major, Jim’s love for woodworking led him to a career as a cabinetmaker. He is always striving to find the perfect balance between form and function in designing his line of household products, while sharing his love for the beauty of North American hardwoods.
Will Wipperfurth "Woodworking has been a way of life for me since I was a child. Growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin taught me to do things myself, from building tree houses to farm toys that you couldn’t buy. It planted the foundation for items I create today. Watching my dad and two uncles plan, build, or repair many different projects showed me what a little foresight and hard work could accomplish. We also had a retired neighbor who was a woodworker. I would ride my bike the mile to his house just to watch him work. He showed me how to do new things, and that in turn gave me the confidence to reach the next level."
Furniture and Decorative
Thomas Farr Woodworking began in 1985, in the north coast community of Blue Lake, California. In 1987, Thomas and his wife moved to Portland, Oregon. He says that the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest mountains and coast have provided a creative environment for him to work and live in. With 20 years devoted to full-time furniture making, curves and shapes are a strong influence on his work. His early experience ranged from curved stair-casing to custom furniture and cabinetry. Chairs and tables are his favorite pieces because he finds them the most challenging. ThomasÕs furniture has evolved from just wood to wood with upholstery and metal details added. There is a consistency in his use shaping and technique with an emphasis on comfort. His work is meant for people, for him their enthusiasm and enjoyment really make the designs come to life.
Wooden Pottery Sculpture
Davoud Khosravi began making small pots from wood as a boy in his native Iran, "just because I liked to work with wood," he says. The compulsion seized him again after he immigrated to Canada in 1990, and two years ago he invested in shop space in Mississauga, Ontario. With the help of his wife, brother and a close friend, Davoud makes intricately laminated pots constructed of native Canadian woods such as cherry, walnut, oak, ash, poplar and maple, and exotics such as padauk.
Kovecses, Designs in Wood Joe and Karen Kovecses' studio is located in a wooded area of Pennsylvania's beautiful Lehigh Valley. Having studied architecture, Joe has incorporated the idea of form following function into his designs. All their pieces are hand-crafted solely by Joe and Karen Kovecses The Kovecses had this to say about their Ikebana Vessels: "Ikebana is the Japanese word for flower arrangement, although Ikebanas include everything that grows: flowers, shrubs, tree branches, even lifeless branches, driftwood, rocks, seashells, etc.
